Summary
Music educators have long argued over the validity of incorporating popular music in the general music classroom. Increased value has been placed on the emotional well-being of students and the awareness that culturally relevant material is necessary to engage students. Adding popular music to our general music classes has received increased support.
In this 90-minute recorded online session, Lauren and Maria discuss how to create a curriculum and lessons that are culturally responsive and build bridges between you, your students, and your community using the popular music of today.
This session is hosted by Lauren DeLago and Maria Del Valle, 2nd and 3rd-grade music teachers at the same school in New York City who show the power of incorporating the music and culture of your students in your curriculum.
