Summary

This course aims to help music educators improve their K-6 general music instruction by incorporating dynamic activity centers. Educators will learn effective strategies for creating and supervising these centers, organizing classrooms, managing behavior, and integrating technology. The course will also explore how these centers can promote essential social and emotional learning (SEL) skills as outlined in Portrait of a Graduate frameworks. It emphasizes student-led instruction, collaborative learning, and meaningful assessment, giving teachers the tools to address learning gaps and establish a student-centered environment that caters to diverse student needs.

Learner Outcomes

At the end of the course, educators will have the skills to plan and implement successful activity centers, resulting in a customized portfolio of activities for their chosen grade level. They will create a lesson plan that aligns with their school division’s pacing guide to support student learning. Teachers will gain a deep understanding of the theory behind center-based learning and its connections to blended learning and project-based learning.
